The Adventures of Ramps, Montana, and 365!
Do i have stories for you?!
To start off this fantabulous email, we will have to start with explaining what ramps are. Ramps are a vegetable(?)/some sort of food that grows here in West Virginia. Well, while I was in Roanoke I had a companion (shout out to sister rogers!! LOVE YOU!) warn me about ramps, because they stink a lot and when you eat them the smell sticks with you worse than onions! On tuesday we went to a members house to drop off some grocery bags, when this member decided that we needed some ramps and potatoes. So we got ramps to take home this week, but we did not eat them. EW.
We also had district meeting Wednesday morning. Haha, stories to tell about this district. I LOVE THEM. Our district leader is Elder Moser and his comp is Elder Krebs. Then there is also Sister Condie and Sister Thorsteinson. We go to the mission office for district meeting. #blessed but they have me introduce myself because im the only new missionary there and then all of us have to say our dream car and our dream vacation. So we all start going around and saying what car we want and where we would go when we get to Elder Krebs...he first states that he wants an old car, i forgot what kind but it was weird, and then he says if he could go anywhere in the world he would go to MONTANA! Like what?! We all busted up laughing because he picked the most random place ever! But perks of serving in Charleston, Sister Lambert (the mission office lady) fed us lasagna for lunch! #thisisawholenewworld
We met a guy named Alfonso that took a book of mormon then when we tried setting up a time to come back, just started looking through the book of mormon and just stared at us. It was really strange....
I had the best weekly planning session of my life here! And IT WAS MY 365TH DAY ON MY MISSION! congrats to me.
So we got strawberry frosted lemonades from Chick Fil A. Cool experience. The longer you are out on a mission, all the more you have to use the spirit to guide you in teaching. We were having comp study at the church and just randomly we started into this role play of me teaching the plan of salvation to Sister Sorenson, so I went and taught it and did my thing. And Sister Sorenson gave me the coolest compliment ever. She said that she was so happy I was her companion because I was a really good teacher and that when I taught, she found herself even though she knew what was coming next, wanting to listen and wanting to learn more! So sweet of her. I LOVE BEING A MISSIONARY. I now realize, that every area that I've had, every companion that i've had have been exactly what I needed. Charleston in pushing me in a whole different way, but i'm pumped to see how I will grow here.
We had a lesson with Jessica and Sherwood Spencer, they fed us fried twinkies with strawberries and whipped creme and strawberry lemonade. So good, but kinda strange. We went into there planning on teaching faith and repentance but because of their MANY, and I truly mean many, questions we taught tithing. It was a big mess, but all is well!
We went and had dinner with the Powell family, and while there I GOT TO HOLD A TURTLE. #wvismakingdreamscometrue
One morning we were out knocking doors and a dog jumped on Sister Sorenson. That was fun. That same day it started raining and we were about to head home for the night, when we saw a bunny. Sister Sorenson dared me to go catch it. I tried but failed. Hey, missionaries need to have fun too right? :)
The elders, Elder Watkins and Elder Baggett, texted us the other day asking us if we had a recipe for banana bread. We didnt but we got one for them and then they brought us some yesterday for church! It was so good!
So sad moment for the day. The Salisburys are leaving this Saturday at 6 am to head back home for Utah. It was their last sunday and I sat next to Sister Salisbury during Relief Society and she was talking to me about how me and Sister Sorenson are gonna be the first sisters President and Sister Lindhardt meet and how they will remember us forever. So I said Sister Salisbury, dont tell me that! That's a lot of pressure on us, the first impression is all on me. #greattttt jk IT'LL BE AWESOME.
We had a guy tell us yesterday that he needed us to get off his porch because he had a small white dog that will bite us. Like okay? Thanks for the warning? You still need our message! haha the adventures of West Virginia!
I fell down the other day and got all sorts of random bruises. I will ALWAYS be clumsy.
Well folks, I love West Virginia. This has probably been the easiest transition to an area for me. It is absolutely incredible here. I couldn't ask for anything better.
Pray for safe travels for the Lindhardt family and for President and Sister Salisbury. Big changes happening this week. But I am so excited to meet the man that I will be serving under for the next six months. He will be what this mission needs because he is a man that is called of God.
I LOVE YOU ALL TO THE MOON AND BACK.
Love, Sister Schoemig

One Year Later. Here I Am WEST VIRGINIA
My caption for this week perfectly explains how I feel today. After one year of serving the Lord, I have made it to West Virginia. And man oh man, it feels good. SO GOOD.
I HIT MY YEAR MARK THIS THURSDAY?!?! WHAT THE WHAT? six months left people. SIX MONTHS.
I got up early Thursday morning to head to the Roanoke Stake Center for transfers. We left for Charleston at 6 in the morning. I sat in the front of the van with Papa Vaassen (? I dont know how to spell his name), absolutely terrified. Ha. Sounds like me right? We finally pulled up to the Charleston building. I got out and said hello to a few missionaries I knew. I saw the new sisters and decided to go talk to them when one of them ran up to me and yelled SISTER SCHOEMIG! Now I am just so confused at this point. But I remembered that I had called a sister in the past transfer (and she was from Highland Utah, I told her to look up me and my little bro in the yearbook), she introduced herself as Sister Lambert and that she had looked me up in the yearbook and when she saw me she knew exactly who I was and had to say hello! She also looked up Chandler and said that she sat next to him in their Financial Lit class but that he probably wouldn't remember her. I told her that my little brother is the best kid in the entire world and that he probably would remember her! :) So that was pretty #sicktight. President and Sister Salisbury got there and came up to me and welcomed me to Charleston. I was teasing President, haha, I told him President, I FINALLY made it to West Virginia. Haha, It was so good!! I said goodbye to some missionaries that I have gotten really close to. that was hard. BUT its okay, I realize that we are all called to specific areas for specific people and it was time for all of us to go our separate ways. I will see them all again real soon. :) I saw Sister Sorenson and gave her a hug, grabbed my stuff, discovered that someone put a departing sticker on my bag (haha real funny), and we were off!
Let's just say the Sister Training Leader life in Charleston is VERY different than in Roanoke. We host the new missionaries and the departing missionaries. So we are in charge of laundry basically. Haha. BUT ITS SO FUN. I got to host Sister Campbell and Sister Mortensen before they went home, it was weird to be sitting there and watching these sisters and be thinking this is you in six months. Its seriously gone by so so fast.
I've met so many people here. I am just a bit overwhelmed but its okay! I'll get the swing of it! I've met Brother Cupit, Brother Casdorf, Sister Jarvis, Sister New, Sister Mullens, Sister Payne, Sister Gordon and so many other people! They are all just awesome and I can't wait to get to know them more and help them!
Saturday was like HOT HOT HOT. Lot's of appointments fell through on us so we did a lot of tracting. #fun
Me and Sister Sorenson did some comp bonding over a game called Bean Boozlled. It was nasty. Look it up. But dont get it. Haha!
Lots happening here in Charleston. It's weird having President and Sister Salisbury live in your area and go to your ward and having the mission office in your area as well. But its pretty cool I guess. ;)
West Virginia is definitely different than Virginia. I miss Virginia a lot. That place is LITERALLY home. But West Virginia is definitely growing on me.
Anyways, I'm loving Charleston so much and I can't wait for the miracles that we will see here!!!
I LOVE YOU ALL TO THE MOON AND BACK!
Love, Sister Schoemig

I CAUGHT A FISH and named it Ted; Elder Schoemig
HELLLLOOOOOO.
Transfer doctrine for good ol' Sister Schoemig is....I'm leaving Roanoke :( BUT I have FINALLY made it to West Virginia! I'm heading to be a Sister Training Leader in Charleston, West Virginia. My heart is so full right now. <3 I cannot even believe that the Lord would want me there in such a crucial time in the mission. I am a very blessed soul. I love being a missionary and I never want to leave.
To my dear younger brother. Elder Schoemig. He leaves today for his two year mission to Washington Seattle. I just want him and all my family to know that I am so proud of who he has become and who he WILL become. I can remember us always talking about not seeing each other for three years and he would always say I wont miss you (even though I always knew he would) and now here we are. I miss him more than ever but last night around 9 pm (my time) I had a really spiritual experience. I was waiting for my transfer news from the zone leaders, while thinking of what was happening back home, I got huge confirmation from Heavenly Father that he was going to be okay. I felt a change in my heart. I am privileged to serve with an elder such as Elder Schoemig. I worry about this kid, probably more than I should. But he's been by my side since I was tiny. I am glad that he is still by my side. Just in a different way. I love you Elder Schoemig. (Sorry I'm really mushy, I'm still the same Sister Schoemig) have fun in Washington. I'll see you soon.
Now to me again, haha.
MOOONNNDAAYYY: We went fishing with Brother Wells and his cousin Taylor. It was raining a lot and we were getting really wet. I am really terrible at casting so I made Brother Wells cast in for me for the fist little while, until I got the feeling down from watching him and Sister Rogers cast. AND THEN WHEN I FINALLY CAST IN BY MYSELF I CAUGHT A FISH. And named it Ted. AND I HELD IT! (I never held a fish before this. They are slimy and gross. Ew. But this one was cute so I had to hold it.) I threw him back in after. I like fishing.
TTUUUEESSSDDAAYY: We had interviews with President Salisbury. I went first. We walked around the gym here at the stake center and talked. He gave me some good last advice and then asked me how I would feel if I stayed in Virginia. Wow. What a question. Well, I started to tear up a little bit, but I told him President, when you come to the WVCM you kinda expect to serve in WV but if the Lord needs me here, then keep me in VA! I'll work hard wherever. We took some pics with President and Sister Salisbury and then went out and worked. #swag We also went to the Wells home in Cave Spring to have dinner and coordination. It was really fun! :)
WEEEDDNNESSDDAAYY: All that happened really was there was a concert. American Heritage, a school from Highland, Utah, came out to Roanoke to sing for us. That was cool, I talked to one girl who was from Highland. When she found out I was from Cedar Hills, she looked at me like I was the craziest thing that's ever happened. haha.
THHUURSSDDAAYY: We had a last minute mission wide phone call. Twas crazy. But good. I was feeling kinda stressed after that phone call so me and Sister Rogers said a prayer and the relief that came to my heart and soul was something so indescribable. The spirit is so real. Heavenly Father is real. The blessings and comfort of God are real. I have no doubt. We went to lunch with Andy (a ysa member) and Megan Rowley (my trainer). Really fun and still productive haha! #alwayssharingthegospel
FFRRRIIDDAYY: We had a WAY good district meeting! And I accomplished something I've wanted to accomplish since I got here. #determined There is a recent convert here named Sister Sadell. She has two teenage girls, the younger one is a former investigator, and we ate with them and Sister Ellsworth and somehow we (unknowingly) trapped her so she had to listen to our lesson. The spirit told us earlier that day to teach the restoration. So we taught it. I've been waiting for the day I could teach Cassie the restoration. The Lord blessed me. I held eye contact with Cassie while reciting the first vision and I know she could feel the spirit because she started smiling, and who could deny the strong spirit that was there. She's just really shy and afraid of what her sister might think. With time, I know she will fully accept the gospel.
SATTTUURRDAAYY: We had a lesson with Brother Bell, Sister Bells husband, his heart is slowly softening. It might take him a while, but he is slowing accepting the gospel.
SSUUUNNDAAY: Let's just say lots of church. We went to YSA ward and Roanoke ward. I saw Megan again. She's so cute. I love her. #bestfriend
MOOONNDDAAYY: We had my last lesson with Sister Quick (a YSA), that was pretty sad. I just love her and she's made so much progress these past couple weeks. WE also ate with the Warr family. Their little boy, Alvin, is pretty much the cutest kid EVER. The only way we could get him to sit at the table for dinner was if he sat next to me. #socute We also did a FHE for the YSA and our ward mission leader wasn't able to make it and Sister Rogers was freaking out, so i set up a projector all by myself. #skilled
TTTUUUEEESSDDAAYY: This was the longest day of my entire life. Literally it was 12 here and we both felt like it should've been 9 already. I said goodbye to Sister Theresa Bell. My heart was broken. She wrote me a letter and gave me a quote picture that says "many people come into your life and leave little impact. but some people enter and touch you so deeply you always remember them" (or something like that) I am going to miss her so much. She is my forever friend. I found her on a day that was so awful, she is so special to me. We are like two peas in a pod. But we also put two people on date to be baptized so good things are going to keep happening here in the 'Noke!
So long email. But a lot happened! I'm so excited for the transfer ahead of me! Wish me luck and love!
I LOVE YOU ALL TO THE MOON AND BACK!

I'm #obsessed with VIRGINIA
WHAT UP FAMILY?!
We are going fishing today with a member, so I dont have too much time BUT....
Tuesday, we went on exchanges with Cotton Hill. Sister Mortensen and Sister Ivory. I was with Sister Mortensen here in the 'Noke but this was a unique exchange because we are taking over the YSA, so we made it a "transition exchange" where Sister Mortensen taught me all she knew about the YSA. It was really fun! We got to go to Cotton Hill and I just really realized how lucky I am there, to be in the most beautiful state in the WHOLE COUNTRY (next to Utah of course)! It was a really fun exchange and I've known Sister Mortensen for almost a whole year now so we got along pretty well on this exchange. :)
We went on another exchange this past week as well, with Salem to help them find some new investigators, it went well! we found 3 new for them in 24 hours! #swag We also did a human table with the sisters. It was really fun!
um..we really didnt have much happen this week except, the power keeps going out, and we got smoothies, its really hot and humid and its been raining A LOT. Like literally nothing happened. Sorry it was a boring week and I'm rushing so things are blanking from my mind. #pdayprobs
I LOVE YOU ALL TO THE MOON AND BACK!
Sister Schoemig
